Arabnews24 - Canada :The American Cocker Spaniel thought to be originated in Spain can be traced back years ago in the 13 hundreds.The Cocker Spaniels were bred to hunt, they were fun dogs and stayed close to their owner and uses their sense of smell.When the Spaniels came to America, people made the breed smaller, at the start of the 20th century, the breed’s muzzle, head, and back changed.
The American Cocker Spaniel is a medium sized dog and has a medium length coat which is silky, flat, or a little wavy. The colour of the coat can be black, golden, and red. They do often have little white markings and is rare to see one that is all white.These dogs need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks.
They shed from a moderate to average amount and brush daily to get rid of loose hair. Cockers can have ear infections, check the ear every one week.A well bred Cocker Spaniel is easy to train and is a good listener, they are eager to please.
It will be hard to house train this dog though, and if not treated correctly, it can have small dog syndrome. Just like any other puppy, you have to train and socialize is early.....Spaniels are fairly active, give it daily exercises.They act well in apartments but make sure to take it out often. If not given enough exercise, it will be herder to control and will act out. They do need at lest half an hour of mental stimulation twice a day.Some health issues Cocker Spaniels can have are cancer, patellar luxation, allergies, IMHA, hip dysplasia, liver problems, bloating, ear infections, obesity, AIHA, epilepsy, Hypothyroidism and skin problems.
American Cocker Spaniels are very affectionate, loyal, and makes a great watchdog, they are very protective. They are bold, very lively and love to be social.The American Cocker Spaniel can live from 12-15 years and cost $800.
